GTA World In-Game Rules

1) Common Courtesy

While out of character it is expected of you to remain respectful and calm towards others. Every player should feel welcome in the community no matter what their background is.

Being respectful of players also means being a fair participant in the game world. If your character is involved in a situation, you must allow the opposing party the ability to respond to your actions; if your character is directly involved with an incident (crime, shooting, etc) you must wait 30 minutes before logging off.

Always follow an administrator's instructions even if you disagree with the decision. If you feel an admin is making the wrong decision, the decision can be reviewed by a member of Staff Management.

Examples of breaking this rule:

  • Logging off before the 30 minute mark if directly involved in an incident
  • Repeated insulting or harassing another player through /pm or /b. If told to stop, stop. Engaging back with this behavior will result in both parties being held accountable. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Doxxing
    • Racism
    • Other bigotry not listed
  • In regards to rule breaks: Disregarding a staff member's decision in game or on the forums. If they told you X - you need to follow X. If you disagree, please submit a staff report on that staff member found here but do not take matters into your own hands.

2) Powergaming

You are not allowed to perform actions that would be impossible in real life. You cannot force actions on other players, nor do superhuman acts. You may not RP an NPC.

Examples of rule violations:

    • Roleplay through a /me to lift up a truck.
    • Jumping from height and not roleplaying the consequences from your fall.
    • Roleplay through a /me to shoot a player with the result of the player ending up dead in the process.
    • You cannot role play an action on another player without their response or confirmation unless one minute has passed without their reply.

It is mandatory to RP fear in situations/actions which you would usually refrain from doing realistically.

Examples of a lack of fear:
    • Running off/drawing a gun while being aimed at.

3) Metagaming

Metagaming is the use of information gained out of character (OOC) for in-character purposes. You may not influence in character behavior/activities using OOC means. Additionally, your own characters cannot interact with each other in any way.

The following are examples of metagaming:

    • You message a player using /pm or on Discord to pick you up at x location;
    • You PM someone that is masked to find out their real name to get around the point of the /mask system;
    • Returning to the general location of your characters death before the scene’s conclusion
    • You gather information about your characters death on another one of your characters
    • Abuse of character nametags for identification purposes

4) Deathmatching

Deathmatching is the act of killing another player with a poor reason, or no reason at all. Vehicle death matching is not allowed. A character may only run over (ram) another player if a character's life is at risk. This should not be done excessively.

Examples of deathmatching include, but are not limited to:

    • Shooting at a player because he is black and your character hates people from Afro American backgrounds
    • Shooting a player because you got into a fist fight earlier

Poor escalation falls under this rule as well. This involves a player instigating others, followed by an unnecessary deadly response. Additionally, poor escalation occurs when a situation responded to with violence that is over-the-top for the situation.

Examples  of poor escalation includes, but are not limited to:

    • A character antagonizes another and then shoots them when they throw a punch
    • Pulling a knife and stabbing someone after being insulted

5) Character Rules

When naming a character, please take into consideration Common Courtesy rules. Please refrain from absurd names.

Characters must be at least 15 years old.

Admins have the final say when it comes to a name being valid or not. Players instructed to find another name should do so.

6) Third Party Modifications And Software

Any type of game modification or software which gives a player any type of advantage over another player is forbidden. This includes but is not limited to binds or hotkeys using programs such as AutoHotkey or macros on a keyboard or mouse.

Client side modding to give an advantage is also considered a breach of the rule. Client side modding may only be done for aesthetic purposes and should never be done to change the function of anything in-game.

Players are permitted to use a controller to play the game. However, due to the fact that controllers have aim assist they may not be used during shootings. All shooting must be done while playing with mouse and keyboard. Controller usage for driving and flying is acceptable.

E.G.

  • Using a vehicle mod to change the handling of a vehicle or change the size to create an advantage;
  • Spawning in items;
  • Use of godmode or giving yourself body armour without in-character access

7.) Bug Abuse

Bugs are defined as a game function that isn't working properly. Bugs should be immediately reported to a staff member and not shared with the general public. Players exploiting bugs will face punishment.

EG; not limited to:

  • Finding a way to duplicate guns or money;
  • Duplicating your own money by selling an item, and you do not lose that item.

  • Burglary/breakins require admin approval through the /breakin command to steal items in properties, you can use the regular robbery script to get crates for money.

  • There are no restrictions to crime here so long as all other rules are followed. All zones not found above are considered neutral crime zones.

The restricted crime zones are:

  • Amethyst Street
  • Star Junction
  • Middle Park
  • West Dyke
  • Inside open businesses

Real World Trading is defined as trading anything with value outside of the IC environment in-game for anything of value in-game. This is not allowed under any circumstances.

You may not use advertisements for illegal purposes (this includes defrauding others), purchase of weapons or any items that could be used in a crime (lockpicks, bugs, trackers, etc).

There are three types of ads:

  • Company ads (/cad): used for company recruitment, events and other company related functions
  • Business ads (/bad): used to place a blip on the map to mark a business that is currently open
  • Regular ads (/ad): for other legal purposes outside of the other two types

The following are considered acceptable examples of using /ad:

  • buying and selling of properties, businesses, vehicles or items of value;
  • advertisement of events that are not associated with a business or company;

13) Lore and Continuity

Players are required to follow any lore and continuity outlined. This is to make sure everyone is on the same page.

Key lore/continuity points:

    • There is no New York City, it is Liberty City
    • There is no Los Angeles, it is Los Santos
    • There is no New York, it is Liberty State
    • There is no California it is San Andreas

14) Returning to RP after Injuries/Death

Players who have died and are looking to return to roleplay in the same location or with the same group must wait until the situation that resulted in their death has been concluded. It is up to the player to excuse themselves from the situation immediately if they return while their death is still being actively investigated or  discussed by their friends.

These requirements include faction conflicts over contested areas. Your character may not return to the fray if killed until the area is no longer contested (for either side).

15) Sexual Roleplay Rules

The purpose of this rule is to restrict predatory behaviour. Sexual roleplay is defined RP that includes and goes beyond sexual touching. "Player" refers to the person behind the screen. "Character" refers to the character created by the player that exists in-game.

Players and characters under 18 are not allowed to be involved in any form of sexual roleplay. This includes entering strip clubs or any other 'erotic' functions. Businesses that have sexual roleplay occurring inside (such as a sex shop or a club with exotic dancers) must be clearly advertised as such in order to warn players of that type of roleplay occurring.

Rape and non-consensual sexual rp is NEVER allowed under any circumstance. This includes forced pimping of female characters since there is a lack of consent.

Sexual roleplay can only occur if ALL of the following is true:

  • all involved players are 18 years old or older;
  • all involved characters are 18 years old or older;
  • each player has agreed to participate and understands that the roleplay must immediately stop if an involved player gets uncomfortable;
  • all involved players are responsible for making sure outsiders cannot easily stumble across the roleplay (eg. roleplaying in a locked interior);
  • players may not encourage other players to participate in sexual roleplay using OOC means. This may also extend to trying to convince a player to engage in sexual acts of any kind when the character is clearly unwilling to participate.
